About Department

The Pulmonology Services at The Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto institute Of Trauma in Karachi serves as critical pillar within South Asia's largest Level-1 Trauma centre. These services are uniquely integrated into high volume emergency environment focusing from acute life saving intervention to management of chronic illness.

The Pulmonology Services at SMBBIT is dedicated to comprehensive management of respiratory health for trauma victims and emergency patients operating within the state of the art 500 beded facility,the team team provide specialized care for a wide array of lung conditions,ranging from trauma induced respiratory failure to chronic obstructive disease categorised into two primary service lines 
A. OUTPATIENT CLINICS:
Located in the ground floor on every Thursday team provides pulmonary follow up clinic provide expert consultation of discharged as well as new registered patients.
B.INPATIENT CONSULTATION:
The team provides advisory services across all hospital wards for management of conditions like pulmonary embolism,pleural effusion,different type of pneumonia s and fitness for surgeries.
C.CRITICAL CARE SUPPORT:
A core strength of the service is its integration with the ICU and high dependency unit.
D.ADVANCE PROCEDURES:
Performing bedside bronchoscopies to clear airways in collapsed lungs.

Dr. Syed Mohammad Umair Dilawar

Incharge of Pulmonology Services at SMBBIT qualified consultant with M.B.B.S and hold fellowship in Pulmonology from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan with experience in managing complex respiratory conditions. Dr.Umair leads the department consultation services,proving expert evaluation for inpatient and outpatient cases with special interest in critical care medicine and managing life threatning respiratory failures and ICU based pulmonary interventions,Pulmonology services are committed to delivering evidence-based compassionate care for all pulmonary and critical care patients.
